Thursday I had my followup appointment with Oncology which also included a followup to my pet scan from last Thursday. Below are the most recent updates!
1. PET scan looks the same as the December scan, nothing new. They don’t have the “official” report yet so I am waiting on that - but Dr. Jenkins says there should be no area of concern. (🥳) Aka, basically a clear report!
2. Long term going forward: I need a checkup and blood work every 6 months for the next 5 years. I will also need to start mammograms and other such checkups earlier for screening for other cancers I am now at risk for due to chemo and radiation treatment.
3. I have a final survivorship appointment for Radiology next month, June 28th. That will hopefully be the true "all clear."
4. Pablo (the port) can get deported sometime
early next year. For insurance purposes the port stays in for approx. one calendar year give or take. I'm optimistically hoping that means Dec/Jan I can be port free!
So overall, good news!
I can be considered a "Cancer Survivor" now but I cannot be "Cancer Free" until I Belice after 5 years of clear scans.
This journey finally feels as if I can start closing some doors. Today an oncology door and in 30 days a radiation door.
Next month I hope to combine a snapshot of this whole journey into a post once I get the all clear from radiation. So stay tuned
That's all for now!
