Long Time No See

It's been a while since I posted here. Don't worry, life hasn't slowed down in the slightest, there just wasn't much to report on the "Cancer" topic. Can you believe that September marks ONE YEAR from diagnosis? Crazy

Now that Ryan and I are settled into SC, I've been able to transition care and start my journey down here in the Palmetto State.

Today was my first (of many) appointments with Oncology. Overall, a thorough start and I'm hopeful. Nothing will ever compare to the cancer center in Lynchburg, VA. I won't lie and say I wasn't already a little "Pearson Cancer Center Homesick." Nevertheless, here are the big takeaways from today's appointment:

  1. Pablo was flushed (the port), and likely is going to have an extension of his stay. Our hopes were a December removal, but it's now looking like next spring is the new timeline for his eviction.

  2. I will have labs/checkups/scans every 3 months for the next year to monitor my lymph nodes. The highest chance of relapse is within the first year post-treatment, and the doctor wants to cover all his bases.

  3. Referred to a cardiologist to start routine checkups on everything heart. (Due to radiation treatment, I am more at risk for heart conditions and breast cancer)

Overall, today was a great check-in on the "Cancer Road-trip" journey I am on. It's clear that I seem to be over the major hurdles for now and I just need to do my part to make sure I keep having my body checked up to make sure it's doing what it's supposed to.

I still count my blessings for how much support Ryan and I have had along this journey. The Lord really showed off in a season where we needed it most and I'm still reminiscing about the sweet treasured memories from the last year of the cancer journey.

Here's to new starts in SC!
